2:00 pm – 3:30 pm

  • Understanding Assessment using the Pretend Play Checklist for Teachers

  • Working through case studies via small group work

11:50 am - 1:20 pm

  • Pretend Play and The Brain

  • Connecting brain development, emotional regulation, and pretend play

  • Identifying the neurobiology of learning

3:45 pm - 5:00 pm

Assessment by video analysis, exploring key features and linking to the science of play

DAY -  02 Principles and Planning

9:30 am – 11:30 am

What is Learn To Play

  • Exploring responding to the child, not directing

  • 8 key principles and exploring emotional engagement

  • Techniques of tracking/empathic reflection

2:00 pm – 3:30 pm

  • Approach planning and implementation

  • Reviewing case studies, working on goal setting, planning approaches for kinder with curriculum links

11:50 am – 1:20 pm

  • Video analysis of Learn To Play and exploration of play skills

  • Activities working in groups to create a narrative

  • Understanding the six key play skills of the Learn To Play framework

3:45 pm - 5:00 pm

  • Considering links between pretend play development, self-regulation, and social competence

  • Group work to identify strategies
